Thematic Photographic 17 --- Angles: Fences

Whenever we go to Virginia to visit my son one of our favorite things to do is to explore the Civil War Battlefields in the area. He has been to so many of them and likes to be our tour guide. Last year we went to Antietam in Sharpsburg, Maryland. All of the battlefield sites evoke such deep-seated feelings, as though that period of time became part of our genetic make-up.

These split wood fences are common in the area, not just the battlefields. But these photos just happened to be from Antietam. The angles are integral to the support system, but it is interesting to me how much space they take up. These look like they required a lot of work to build and, in fact, volunteers are often called upon to rebuild and maintain these 'old' fences.

I love these fences! And your photos show their beauty off well! (I get amazed that they are just made of wood... no hardware!)

I have always love these kinds of fences! It sure does seem like it takes a lot of wood for them though. :) Perfect for angles. :)
