Here we go!
This series of shots was so comical, and I'm glad I was able to catch them. Please pardon the lines from the fences. At the San Diego Zoo this little girl (not sure what kind of deer she was) seemed to be very curious about a very large bird, a Marabou Stork (I took a picture of the sign as a reminder).
This big ol' stork must have said something scare to the little sweetheart, because she just took off running......
.... and running......
At a safe distance she was found shaking and looking for comfort.
Meanwhile, the big, mean, and very blue, stork was emphasizing his power over the neighborhood:
That wingspread could certainly have provided some shade for the little deer.

Lucky you to live near a zoo. Sea World isn't too far away in Orlando, but I don't get there too often. Great photos. The stork is the boss for sure.
Wonderful series of photos. I love the last one with the crane's wings spread. He works for project black too, don't you think?

Great timing on your photo shoot, not that the big blue guy isn't interesting by himself (or the wee one for that matter) but getting the two together gives a great sense of scale.
Nasty stork! The series of photos is captivating, but I found myself even more captivated by the story you wove around the photos. I'm so glad you tackled this week's challenge with such gusto. I agonize over theme choice every week, so to see a response like this warms my soul.
Oh, wow! That poor deer... that last photo of her, huddled against the rock looking all shook up, makes me want to soothe her. Great illustrated story. Tell me, was it an exceptionally large stork, and a tiny deer, or a combination of both? Because I can't get a sense of scale from the photos.

Smarmoofus, very good question about the scale. It is a very large stork. They can reach 5 feet tall with a wing span over 10 feet. This particular stork was probably about 4 feet tall and his wing span was every bit of 7 feet. The little deer was about 2 to 2.5 feet to her shoulders.
