Thematic Photographic 5 - Sky

We are already up to Week 5 with Carmi's Thematic Photographic and I can safely say that everyone participating is having a lot of fun. Word is getting around and many other "blogo-ographers" (if that isn't a word, it is now: blogger/photographers) have joined in. Already several have posted their amazing sky pictures.

This will be one of my favorites, as well, because I love to take pictures of the sky: stormy, sunsets, sunrises (rarely, but sometimes I'm up that early), fluffy clouds, .... well, you get the idea.

About a month before we left Arizona I captured the lightning in these monsoon thunderheads with my Canon EOS Rebel. (I now have the Canon 40D and wish I'd had it then!) These were taken on manual, no flash with about a 3.0 - 3.5 second exposure. I was thrilled when I looked back to see what I was able to get. The bright light is a street light, one of several in the area that diluted the darkness quite a bit. Now we live high on a hill in the country and have many storms go over so I have some of those photos (with the Canon 40D) to post later. Still trying to catch the lightning bolts; it seems I'm never pointed in the right direction and with a 400mm lens on a tripod, even auto setting is too slow to move around very quickly.

Here is an Arizona monsoon monster:
