Here she is. Unscramble N R E W E O S E I H and you get E I S E N H O W E R. Add USS and you get the name of the aircraft carrier in the foreground. The ship in the distance is the USS George Washington. You might remember that my son was on that ship earlier this year as she sailed around South America on her way to deployment in Japan.
So, what's this all about?
WHO? My mom and I are going to Virginia to see my son who is an officer deployed to Strike Group Eight now attached to the USS Eisenhower .
WHAT? The Eisenhower is hosting a Friends and Family Day Cruise.
WHEN? August 30
WHERE? Naval Air Station, Norfolk, VA and the Atlantic Ocean
WHY? A rare chance to tour the ship, see my son's quarters, cruise out on the Atlantic far enough to watch an air power demonstration.
I've had this planned for a few months and now I'm just a few days away from what will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I am not crazy about the water, especially if I can't see the bottom --- or the shore line. Cruises are not on my list of dream vacations. This is quite different, but I'm a little nervous anyway.
So, I'll be on the road beginning Wednesday and gone for a week. There should be plenty of time to blog and, of course, send pictures.
Wow! Now you know why I just had to have some fun with this in preparation. Carmi and Carol, that's the rest of the story. Me, I'll see if I can get a shot of a doo-doo-diver bomber, otherwise known as a sea dull, for you. :-)

WOW Barb, you are a lucky lady! My father was a navy man... he would be at sea for 6 months at a time... I used to love going aboard the ships....
well now, you are going to have a great time, and you'll be enjoying yourself so much that you won't even think about being nervous... and pictures, oh yes, take a lot of those... :)
Barb.. do you mean voodoo diver bomber, they're really cool... this is great, I hope you have a super spectacular time!
hmmm, never heard of voodoo divers, but when I wnet to Oregon years ago there were T-shirts and all kinds of souveniers with cute cartoons of seagulls. That's where I picked up the term doo doo dive bombers. I expect to see some of those.
I bet that will be fun to get to see where your son is. :) I remember touring a sub that was similar to one my dad had been on.
OMG, you get to be on board! What a trip! Send my best to the heroes on board CVN-69, and please bring home a memory card completely full of incredible memories.
My thoughts are with you as you take this remarkable journey to be with your son. Go Navy!
What an incredible experience for you! I can’t wait to hear and see the stories of life on board. Please thank your son for keeping my family safe. I know that because he isn’t a lazy fat ass, my fat ass can be lazy and I do appreciate it. Enjoy your time and thanks for the hugs!
ps - can't wait to see a photo of a flying rat...
