Thematic Photographic #57 --- Distant

This week the Thematic Photographic over at Written, Inc. is distant. When I saw that I knew just the photo I wanted to post.

In February 2007 my son Scott was home for two weeks during his one-year deployment to Iraq. We spent a few days at one of our favorite places --- San Diego. Not only does this photo show Scott at a distance, but I got the feeling that his thoughts were far away, too. He wasn't looking forward to going back to Iraq. But, as I watched him, bathed in the warm light of the Pacific sunset, I sensed he was looking to the distant future... not too distant, but beyond Iraq.

As I write this, Scott is again in a very distant place --- on his way back from the Middle East, but this time on a ship. We are all looking forward to the not too distant future when he will be with us for a week! Woohoo!

Join us in the fun of Thematic Photographic! If you haven't already pop over here for the rules and to see all the wonderful photos from other participants.

Thanks for stopping by!

What a lovely picture! I've been to San Diego in year 2001, hopefully I get another chance to go there again.

This is such a poignant capture of your son especially when you told us his story. I'm sure you're proud of him, as much as we are thankful for his service. :)

Don't mind if I sniffle a little. You create beautiful art in every post, Barb. I'm so glad he's home.
